HP LaserJet MPF Pro M26nw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello, do you know a solution how to scan a black and white printed document (so in a grey scale) with now a blue signature to have the signature really blue and not in greyscale as the document? I have bought HP LaserJet MPF Pro M26nw because it is enough for me to print in black, but sometimes I need to scan some signed document and the signature is always problematic and now I have a document, where I cannot make the signutare blue at all, because the document/form contains big grey areas, not only black text.

I have tried to update the firmware and I am using the latest drivers (well I think that the drivers were not updated for over two years, but firmware was a year ago).

Hey there! @Mvek, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Have you tried scanning from a different application?

Where do you scan from (from the printer or from computer software)?

Excellent description and a great diagnosis done. It is greatly appreciated.

Let's continue with some troubleshooting steps now.

Change copy settings (Printers with touchscreen or menu-based control panels)

Changing the copy settings from the printer control panel might improve copy quality.

  1. Touch Copy, Copy Document, or Copy Photo on the printer control panel, and then select any available basic settings that apply to your copy job.

  2. Touch Settings or the gear icon .

    NOTE:

You might need to scroll down the control panel screen to access all settings. Available settings vary by printer model.

    • Paper Type: Select the type of plain or photo paper you are making the copies on.

    • Quality: Select an available copy quality level.

    • Lighter/Darker or Contrast: If the original is faded or too saturated, make the copy lighter or darker.

    • Optimize or Enhancements: Select the type of item you are copying to improve quality, such as sharpening text and image edges or improving faded colors in photos.

    • HP Copy Fix: Automatic copy quality and skew adjustment tool.

    • Save Current Settings or Set as New Defaults: Retains the selected settings for future copy jobs.

  3. Touch or press the Back icon  or OK.

  4. Load the original document or photo, and then start a copy job.

Try scanning from HP smart app and check if it helps.

Hello,

I have tried scanning with HP Scan installed with the drivers and with W10 Fax and Scanner app. The results were same, even with settings "color" and "photo", not only for the "document" type of scan. Both for scan to PDF or JPG.

I will try HP Smart, I have not known about it, but it seems it installed too. I will create a testing document for that, when I return back in approx. one or two weeks, because I will be off for that time now.

This printer does not allow, as far as I know, to scan from the printer, only from the app. I cannot try it on copying, because I have black and white printer + scanner, so I can only scan in color.

But I would like to point out that your links return 502 error Bad gateway (perhaps it is a temporary situation and it will work fine tomorrow).

Anyway as I have written now, I will try to play with that and create an example doc, which can be usable to retry the issue with also HP Smart app.

@Mvek,

You can try scanning using HP smart app from the PC and check if it helps.

Also, you can scan using the windows paint app on the PC.

Try some troubleshooting steps below.

Check the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) services:

  1. Click the Windows icon (), type services.msc in the Search programs and files box, and then click the services.msc link under Programs. If prompted, click Yes.
  2. In the Services window, right-click Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service, and then click Properties.
  3. Click the Dependencies tab.
  4. Make sure that Remote Procedure Call (RPC) and Shell Hardware Detection are listed, and then close the Properties window.
  5. In the main Services window, make sure that Remote Procedure Call (RPC) and Shell Hardware Detectionshow as Started in the Status column. If they do not, continue to the next step to start the service.
  6. In the Services window, right-click Windows Image Acquisition.

  7. If the option to start the service is available, click Start.
  8. If the option to stop the service is available, click Stop. When the service stops, right-click Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) again, and then start the service.
  9. Close the Services window.

Cheers!

Hello, sorry for the delay, I hade some personal constraints to get back to this issue. I have followed your steps, although I don't understand, how those settings of the services could affect the colour interpretation of the scanned image. As I said, I have problems that what should be blue, is almost black, not that I cannot print or scan.

But 3 resolutions:

1) HP Smart provides same result as HP Scan installed with the printer.

2) I have both RPC and Shell Hardware Detection services running, but I do have only RPC under the WIA service dependencies.

Restarting of course does not help,  restart of the computer also did not help before.

3) I have managed to prepare an example. First picture is a quick photo by my mobile phone. Second picture is a scan to JPEG (PDF looks same, but this web does not allow to attach PDF) with settings to use color, not grey scale. As you can see, the fake signature is very dark, hard to recognize as blue on some screens.

I would like to manage to have same colour of the fake signature as on the photo from mobile phone.

Are you facing the same issue while making a copy?

If the copy is working fine follow the below suggestion.

Update the firmware for the printer using this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/product/hp-laserjet-pro-mfp-m25-m27-series/9365411/model/9365415/docume...

Restart the printer.

Then, I recommend you delete the driver at the root level and Install the drivers, follow the steps below:

Remove the USB if connected

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose `Delete' or `Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between "printui.exe" and "/s")

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

Then, Click on this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-laserjet-pro-mfp-m25-m27-series/936541... to download and install the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M25-M27 Series Full Software and Drivers.

It is a printer/scanner with only black toner, so copying would not try anything.

Firmware was already updated.

In the end, I have solved the issue by selecting much higher DPI. If I scan the document on 300 DPI, it is as I attached abve. If I use 600, it is much better.

And maybe I got not after reinstall of the drivers much bigger scale to select from for the DPI. From 75 to 1200 in the HP Smart app. So your hints probably helped too.
