HP Envy 5535

Hi,
For some reason I am no longer to scan to email anymore. When I do, it tries to load then then the following appears:

" Server Connection Error The Printer was unable to connect to the server. Check the internet connection and try again, or set a proxy address"

I have reset to factory settings, unplugged the thing all to of no avail. Everything else seems to be fine. I printed out the HP Network Configuration Page and understand very little of the 3 pages.

The two most common causes of a printer not finding a server are a wrong Gateway address in the network settings or bad/wrong DNS settings in the network setup. Usually you can have 2 DNS entries and one is typically supplied by your ISP and setting your secondary to Google  (enter address 8.8.8.8) will usually ensure that your printer can find servers outside your network.

Thank you for reaching out so quickly Repairatrooper!  My apologies, however, can you please tell me in a little more detail on how to do all that? Where do I enter the 8.8.8.8?

Thank you!

Hi,

I can provide some guidance but I have never actually used this particular model before.

If you go to the embedded web server of the printer by typing the IP address of the printer into address bar of your browser. You will then want to find a tab that says network settings, which may be a sub menu under one of the primary menus that come up. Once you find the Network tab you are looking for DNS settings, there will be a primary and secondary. Change the secondary to the suggested 8.8.8.8.
