Context?

If the printer is on the network,

Copy Defaults can be adjusted in the Embedded Web Server (EWS).

If you have changed the paper in the printer, the paper size / type should be checked / changed on the printer display (right after the paper is changed and / or the tray is opened / closed).

If you are asking about other than Copy, then there are places to check / adjust the settings.

If you are asking about physically changing the paper and telling the printer about that change,

See the User Guide

Starting on Page 15

After you change the paper, look for the message on the printer display and change the paper size / type

Still asking about Copy?

Very little can be changed for Copy right on the printer display.

Copy is explained in the User Guide on Page 32

Example -

Changing Paper type / size  in the Printer Display

Using EWS to adjust Tray and Paper Management settings

Changing the Printing Preferences

Sorry, I didn't mean to appear rude or repeat myself, but I have been exploring all the avenues on settings for a while. Cheers.

The context is I cannot alter the paper size in settings on the printer. It is stuck on 6 x4.

It's fine - let's try something more...

If you have not done so,

Try / Consider

Check / Adjust / Retain the Paper at the Printer Display Panel

Open Printer Tray,

If you have not yet done so, add desired paper type

Close Tray

IF applicable for your printer:

On the Printer Control / Display Panel, Click Modify (wording varies), set the paper size and type, Click OK

NOTE:  If the size of the Paper Size is not in the Drop-down list, Select Custom

What else?

This is not likely the problem - it takes just a minute to check...

Tray installed?

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers >

Right-Click Printer > Printer Properties > tab Device Settings >

Beneath Installable Options > Tray #  > Select Installed > OK

What else?

Printer might be "stuck".

Printer Turns Off Unexpectedly or Repeatedly

Start with Step 2

Step 3

If you have not done so, update the Printer Firmware

I have bought HP printers for 20 years or more. I will never buy another, there is this and the issues with the ink cartridges. Enough.

Sorry for my earlier irritation. The printer has become unstuck and I have finally been able to change the paper size. Phew 🙂
