I can scan sitting at my laptop using HP Smart, but I can't scan to my computer from my printer.

I understand how confusing it can be when your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 All-in-One Printer scans perfectly from your laptop using HP Smart, but refuses to scan from the printer control panel to your computer. It feels like the printer and computer are speaking two different languages, even though they’re on the same network.

Let’s walk through the steps to fix this and bring back that seamless scan-to-PC experience.

Steps to Enable “Scan to Computer” on Windows 11

1. Make Sure HP Software Is Installed


2. Enable “Scan to Computer”

  • Open HP Printer Assistant (search for it in the Start menu).
  • Click on “Scan” > “Manage Scan to Computer”.
  • Click “Enable Scan to Computer”.
  • Make sure “Automatically start Scan to Computer when I log in to Windows” is checked.


3. Check Network Connection

  • Ensure both your printer and PC are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Restart your router, printer, and PC to refresh connections.


4. Use HP App Diagnose & Fix Tool

  • Open the HP app.
  • Click the wrench icon (bottom left).
  • Select “Diagnose & Fix” and follow the instructions.
