Document automatically being converted to word when I open up the scan.

I'd like to know How to settings to prevent PDF from converting it to Word doc.

Also, all saved pdf file converted word doc when I open.

I can't send an email with a PDF file attached,   because it has already been converted to a Word document..

Thank you.

Hi @yung3,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand there may be an issue with the default program settings for your PDFs. If your PDF files are opening as Word documents, your computer might have the default program for PDFs set to Microsoft Word instead of a PDF reader like Adobe Acrobat or Microsoft Edge (which can also open PDFs).

Here are some steps to resolve this:

1. Set Default PDF App

  1. Right-click on any PDF file on your computer.
  2. Select Open with > Choose another app.
  3. In the list, select your preferred PDF reader (e.g., Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Edge).
  4. Check the box that says Always use this app to open .pdf files.
  5. Click OK to save your settings.

This should set the default app for PDFs to a PDF reader rather than Word, which will prevent them from being converted automatically.

2. Confirm Scan Output Format on HP Smart App

If you're scanning PDFs with HP Smart:

  1. Open HP Smart on your computer.
  2. Go to Scan and select Settings or More settings.
  3. Ensure the File Type is set to PDF and not another format (e.g., Word/Editable text).
  4. Save your settings.

3. Emailing PDFs

When you attach a file in your email client, it should attach as a PDF if the file format is saved as such. With the above changes, this issue should also be resolved.

Refer to this document: HP OfficeJet Pro 9015 All-in-One Printer User manual

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
