We bought a new HP Printer and are unable to send faxes; we have tried several different times using multiple Fax numbers and ultimatly have to end up scanning them and emailing them over. We get a " no answer" error message every single time. We have had it for a week and have not been able to send a successful fax yet.

It is easier to find the proferred solution when the "error" is accompanied by an error code. Nonetheless, if you have not done so, do read through the Fax Error Codes and Solutions . If you like, search for entries containing a helpful keyword (for example "answer").
Remember to try more than one fax speed and do consider trying a different phone line in your house. Phone lines, even those in the same house, are not always equal.
Fax Test
Test Fax Setup with the HP Fax Test Service
Just a few examples of why a tested fax setup cannot connect to the recipient include:
- Your printer, though it has passed the Fax Test, is not able to correctly dial the number and complete the command structure. This is one of the least likely issues, it is perhaps possible. I have not seen this one.
- Your phone line, though is passed the initial Fax Text, is not actually able to carry the data necessary to initiate and complete a real fax. Possible.
- The Fax has initiated correctly, the lines in your house can carry the signal, the miles of phone lines between your house and the recipient manage to make the journey - and the Fax data is not correctly connecting at the other end. Receiving fax equipment and / or phone line is dropping, balking, not able to answer. Possible.
- The Fax has initiated correctly, the data cannot find the recipient - number cannot connect (reasons covered in the Troubleshooting documents).
It is easier to find the proffered solution when the "error" is accompanied by an error code.
Of all the documentation that HP provides, the "How to" for Fax and the Fax Troubleshooting sections are pretty inclusive of the help that is available.
There is a risk of providing information that you have already read and suggesting steps that you have already tried and did not mention.
Regardless, the documentation is essentially what we have to offer.
You have no doubt discovered that the User Guide provides setup and problem solving information.

How to Fax
In addition to the guidance provided in the User Guide...
Category How-to > Topic Fax provides the "how to" document". and, for lack of more "how to", includes some of the "what if" documentation.
