Hi @DD4444,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Envy Photo 7858 is unable to scan to email, even though the printer’s other functions (print, fax, copy) are working. Let’s go through a few steps to identify what’s blocking the scan-to-email feature and get it working again.

1. Check Internet Connection

Make sure the printer is connected to the same network as your computer.

On the printer’s control panel, go to Wireless → Network Settings → Wireless Network Test Report.

Confirm the printer shows a Connected status and has a valid IP address.

2. Verify Scan-to-Email Setup

On the printer’s touchscreen, go to Scan → Email → Setup.

If you haven’t set it up yet, you’ll be prompted to add your email account.

You’ll need your email provider’s SMTP server, port number, and (sometimes) an app-specific password.

For example:

Gmail: smtp.gmail.com, Port 465 (SSL) or 587 (TLS)

Outlook/Hotmail: smtp.office365.com, Port 587 (TLS)

Many email providers now require either two-factor authentication and/or an app-specific password for third-party devices like printers. Make sure this is set up in your email account’s security settings.

3. Enable Scan-to-Email in Embedded Web Server (EWS)

Find the printer’s IP address (on the Wireless Summary screen).

Type the IP address into a browser on your computer to open the EWS page.

Go to Scan → Scan-to-Email Setup and check:

Outgoing email profiles are correctly configured.

Authentication (username/password) is correct.

SSL/TLS is enabled if required by your email provider.

4. Update Printer Firmware

On the printer control panel, go to Setup → Printer Maintenance → Update the Printer.

Install any available firmware updates.

This often resolves email protocol compatibility issues.

5. Test with HP Smart App

Install the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device.

Use the app’s Scan function to send a scan to your email.

If this works, the issue is likely with the printer’s built-in scan-to-email configuration.

6. Check Security or Firewall Settings

Temporarily disable any firewall or antivirus software on your computer to see if it’s blocking SMTP connections.

If the scan works when the firewall is off, add an exception for the printer.

7. Perform a Printer Reset (if nothing else works)

On the printer, go to Setup → Printer Maintenance → Restore Factory Defaults.

Reconnect it to your Wi-Fi and repeat the scan-to-email setup from Step 2.

I hope this helps.
