I'am trying to scan an oval picture so I can upload it to use on a custom printed sweatshirt but can't figure out how to scan it or crop (something that's not square) without the white around the picture showing? I called HP Support & was 1st told I needed a 3rd party software & was transferred to someone who told me that, no, I did not need any other software, my printer was capable of doing what I wanted but 1st I had to pay $99.95 for the support.  I was then transferred to their sales department  & was told her system wasn't working & was transferred again.  I gave up & thought I would see if someone in the community might be able to help me?

I might have missed something in the scan software - it is certainly possible it can do this; I have not found it.

Use Office Word to shape the scanned square / rectangle photo (back) into an oval.

The printer does not appear to support transparancies (for printing).  ???

Not sure how to print it or deal with the image afterwards - this may be a dead end.  Rats.

OK - maybe the following will be helpful in some minor way...

You'll need a version of Office that supports the crop-to-shape feature.

According to the help-document, Office 365 provides the feature (according to the help document):

Office 365 - Crop a picture to fit in a shape

Microsoft Office Home and Business 2019 supports this feature.

So, check to determine whether your version of Office can crop-to-shape

Example:

Open new document

Insert the photo / image into the document

If desired, resize the image edges to make the image larger or smaller.

Click on the image (so the image is "active")

On the ribbon, Select Format

In Picture Styles, click on the drop-down slider on the little image icons (sorry for the lame description)

Select your shape and your boundary (frame).

After the photo is "reshaped", click Home

If you like, expand Layout and changed the Paper / Page Size and the margins to reduce the "extra" stuff around the edges of the photo.

Save the document.
