I have lost the PDF format on my series 7900 printer. The drivers are all up to date. Any ideas how to retrieve it?

I completely understand how frustrating it can feel when a feature you rely on, like saving scans as PDFs, suddenly disappears. It’s like reaching for your favorite book and finding an empty shelf. Let’s bring that functionality back for you.

The issue usually occurs when the HP Scan software or HP app settings get reset, or the PDF option is disabled. Here’s what you can do:

Step 1: Check HP App Settings

  1. Open the HP app on your computer.
  2. Click ScanAdvanced Settings (gear icon).
  3. Under File Type, make sure PDF is selected. 


Step 2: Reinstall HP Scan Software

Sometimes the PDF option is tied to the full-feature driver package:

  1. Go to the official HP page: HP ENVY Inspire 7900 series | HP® Support
  2. Download the Full Feature Software and Driver.
  3. Install it and restart your PC.


Step 3: Use HP Scan App

After reinstall:

  • Open HP Scan → Select Document → Choose PDF as the output format.

 

Extra Tip

If you’re scanning from your printer’s control panel, ensure Scan to Computer is enabled in HP Smart settings.
