Thanks for hanging in there—this issue with your HP OfficeJet 8020 sounds like a classic case of the printer being online but not properly communicating with your computer. 

 

Let’s walk through a few proven fixes that have helped other users:

1. Restart Everything

  • Power off your printer, computer, and Wi-Fi router.
  • Wait 30 seconds, then power them back on in this order: router → printer → computer.
  • This refreshes network connections and clears temporary glitches.

 

2. Check Printer Status

  • On your PC, go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  • Select your HP 8020 and click Open queue.
  • Make sure “Use Printer Offline” is unchecked.

 

3. Use HP’s Diagnose & Fix Tool

  • In the HP Smart app, click Printer Settings > Diagnose & Fix.
  • Let it run a scan—it will automatically fix common connection issues.
    You can also access this tool on HP’s support page if needed.

 

4. Update or Reinstall Drivers

  • Visit the HP 8020 driver page and download the latest drivers and firmware.
  • Uninstall the current printer software, restart your PC, and reinstall.

 

5. Use HP Smart App

  • Download from 123.hp.com.
  • It simplifies scanning and printing, and often bypasses stubborn connection issues.

  • Check Firewall Settings: Ensure your printer isn’t being blocked by security software.
  • Try a Different App: Scan using HP Smart instead of Windows Scan or other apps.
