I'm trying to set up printer to scan. I have a mac and **bleep** account.

I am trying to set up the scan to email function on my Color Laser Jet Pro MFP M283fdw printer without success. I have Macbook Pro and am using a **bleep** account. It looks like other people have had my issue but no one has posted a solution that works. Is it just that the HP printer isn't compatible with **bleep**?

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.

G-Mail and other email accounts are generally supported by SMTP services, including Scan to Email.

The printer is not directly aware of any particular Email provider.

What else?

It's been a while since Google slammed the door shut on Less Secure Access - we do still see occasional questions on the subject.  If you have not done so, switch on 2-Step verification > Create and Assign an App Password that you use in place of the regular password you would use to sign into your email.

Check, too, whether your connection is tripping over your DNS -- this is less common but is worth a quick look.

Set up Scan to Email HP Printer with 2 Step Verification on G-mail and Google

Steps

Log into your Google Account

Open your Google Security Webpage

Next, if not done, Switch ON 2-step verification

Turn on 2-Step Verification

Next, Complete the steps to open your mail security settings

Sign in with App Passwords

and

Create / Select app and (then) create your app password

• At the bottom, choose Select app and choose the app you using > Select device and choose the device you’re using > Generate.
• Follow the instructions to enter the App Password. The App Password is the 16-character code in the yellow bar on your device.
• Tap Done.

Tip: Most of the time, you’ll only have to enter an App Password once per app or device, so don’t worry about memorizing it.

Assign / set that new App Password in your Scan to Email profile as the password.

Save and Test
