I'm trying to scan at over 300 dpi on my HP LaserJet Pro 200 color MFP M276nw. When I try to scan at 600 or 1200 dpi I get an error that says "There was a problem during the scanning. Check the scanner and try again." Repeating the process results in the same error. Scanning at 300 dpi or less works fine. Can this model scan above 300 dpi? Or is there another possible reason I'm having this issue?

Hi,

you can only scan 1 page if you use the resolution above 300 dpi!

Thanks. But I am only trying to scan one page at a time. I'm still getting that error every time I try to scan at 600 or 1200 dpi. Scanning at 300 dpi or lower works fine every time.

I'm using HP Smart. Here are the settings...

Page Size: A4

Resolution 600

I get the same error message after trying those settings (A4 at 600 dpi).

Try this Solution:

  1. Download only this file: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi
  2. Close all programs

Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo > in folder Downloads double-click on the msi.

OPTIONAL:

    Add HP Scan Extended shortcut to Taskbar / Send to Desktop / Pin to Start
    • Open File Explorer > Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\HP Scan Extended\bin
    • Right-Click on "HPScan.exe" > Select Pin to Taskbar / Send to Desktop / Pin to Start

I was wondering why the screenshots look a bit strange ... grin.


My recommendation is this:
The printer is very old and I don't know if it ever worked before. That you could scan A4 pages at 600 dpi or 1200 dpi.
If you can answer YES, then I hope you still have the old installation software saved on your computer.


If the answer is no, then this current software should be uninstalled first.
In other words, switch off the printer first! Only now should you uninstall HP Smart and all the printer software.
