I own an Officejet-4620-e-all-in-one-printer-series/5101229/model/5101234 and I need to scan a white paper document but no matter what setting I try in the HP Scan interface, the background comes out light blue which is useless to me. Can anyone please recommend a fix?

Hi @marneo,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
I understand how frustrating it is when a simple scan doesn’t look right, especially when you need a clean white background. The light blue background issue is common with older HP OfficeJet models like the 4620 and usually happens due to auto color correction or background detection settings in the HP Scan software.
Here’s how you can fix it:
1. Change Scan Settings
- Open HP Scan on your computer.
- Select Document Scan (not Photo Scan).
- Set:
- Color Mode: Black & White or Grayscale (instead of Color).
- Paper Size: Correct size (e.g., A4 or Letter).
- File Type: PDF or TIFF for documents.
- Disable any “Enhance Colors” or “Auto Exposure” options if available.
2. Use “Text” or “Document” Profile
- In HP Scan, choose Text or Document profile instead of Photo.
- This forces the scanner to treat the background as white.
3. Clean the Scanner Glass
- Dust or smudges can cause color shifts.
- Wipe the glass and white backing with a lint-free cloth and glass cleaner.
4. Update HP Scan Software
Older versions of HP Scan can misinterpret white backgrounds. 👉 HP Officejet 4620 e-All-in-One Printer series | HP® Support
5. Post-Scan Fix (Optional)
If the scan still shows a blue tint:
- Open the scanned file in HP Scan or any image editor.
- Use the Brightness/Contrast or Remove Color Cast tools to correct the background.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
