HP officejet 5744
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I want to scan an 8.5" x 10" map and expand it into 4 sections (NW, NE, SW & SE) 8.5" x 10" each and print each one. I was able to do it a few years ago but a software change stopped this capability.

Can anyone help me? Is this capability available today?

Thanks, bfrankp

@bfrankp, Welcome to HP Support Community!

Scan the document to your Computer first and follow the steps below:

Open Microsoft Paint
Use the search feature and type the word “paint".

The Paint window will be opened on your Desktop.

print, large, image, multiple, pages, Windows, Paint

Step 2. Open the image that you want to print

Load the file with the image that you want to be printed.

To do that, click or tap the File tab on the ribbon. Then, click o r tap Open.

print, large, image, multiple, pages, Windows, Paint

Browse your Windows computer or device and select the image that you want to print. When selected, click or tap Open.

print, large, image, multiple, pages, Windows, Paint

Now you should see your picture loaded in Paint.

print, large, image, multiple, pages, Windows, Paint

Step 3. Set Paint to print your large image on multiple pages

Now you’ve got your image opened in Paint. It’s time to tell Paint that you want the image to be printed on multiple pages. In order to do that, click or tap on the File tab on the ribbon and then Print. In the Print menu, click or tap Page Setup.

print, large, image, multiple, pages, Windows, Paint

The Page Setup dialog window is opened.

print, large, image, multiple, pages, Windows, Paint

This is the place where the magic happens. Along with other printing options like the paper Size, Orientation or Margins, you will also find a section called Scaling.

print, large, image, multiple, pages, Windows, Paint

To print your large image on multiple pages, all you’ll have to do is tell Paint that you want to scale your image to Fit to: as many pages you want. For instance, if you’d like your image to be printed on four pages in a rectangle, you should use the “ Fit to” field to enter the values 2 by 2 pages.

Depending on how large you want your image to be when printed and how long or wide it is, you can enter the values that you need.

print, large, image, multiple, pages, Windows, Paint

Once you’ve decided exactly on how many pages you want the image to be printed, click or tap OK to save your settings.

print, large, image, multiple, pages, Windows, Paint

Your settings are saved.

Step 4. Print your image on multiple pages, with Paint

Paint knows that you want it to print the image on multiple pages. All that remains is to start the printing process. Click/tap the File tab on the ribbon and then Print. You can also press CTRL + Pon your keyboard.

print, large, image, multiple, pages, Windows, Paint

If you have more than one printer installed, select the printer that you want to use. Then, click or tap the Print button.

print, large, image, multiple, pages, Windows, Paint

Your printer will immediately start printing the image on multiple pages.

Here’s what we printed on multiple pages

To showcase the steps involved, we used this image and printed it on 15 pages:

print, large, image, multiple, pages, Windows, Paint

Here’s the end result we obtained:

print, large, image, multiple, pages, Windows, Paint

Let me know if this helps.

Cheers 🙂

It seems to me that you have printed the same original page 4 times. There was no expansion as I requested

to rick-s mod:

I am confused. I had an answer from TEJ1602 suggesting (incorrectly, I believe) microsoft paint as the solution. Now I understand TEJ1602 is illegal, not a "MOD"

I show a reply from rick-s mod but I cannot find it.  May I be sent that mesage?

Thanks, bfrankp

I understand you are not a "MOD" & therefore your response is illegal (?). Your sample picture(s) shows nothing. Your sample picture(s) should have shown 5 pictures: the original and 4 quadrants (upper left and right, and lower left and right) of the original, each printed 8.5" x 10".

Please redo and show me so I can use microsoft paint once I know it works.

Thanks for your help.

Please forgive my mistake that you might illegal. I see the HP after your name.

Please show me 5 versions of your picture in 8.5" x 10" pages: 1 original and the 4 quadrants.

Thanks again, bfrankp

Instead of 5 pages, please show me only two: the original, and the upper right quadrant in 8.5" x 10" pages.

Thanks for your patience.

Under the page setup window, in the scaling section set the fit to section as 2 by 4 pages.
