Hi @Clarinet45
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
If the scan icon is missing for your HP OfficeJet Pro 9130e, it’s likely due to a change in how macOS or Windows displays printer functions after updates. You can restore scanning access through the HP App or built-in system tools.
Steps to Restore the Scan Icon and Functionality
1. Use the HP App for Scanning
The HP App replaces HP Smart and includes full scan support.
- Download for Windows: HP App – Microsoft Store
- Download for macOS: HP App – Mac App Store
Steps:
- Open the HP App and select your printer.
- Click Scan > Scanner > Flatbed or Document Feeder.
- Use the Add Page option for multi-page scans.
- Save as PDF or image.
If the printer doesn’t appear, remove and re-add it in System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
2. Use macOS Built-In Tools (if on MacBook)
macOS supports scanning without the HP App.
- Open Preview > File > Import from Scanner
- Or use Image Capture from Applications
- Select your printer and scan directly
3. Reinstall the Printer to Refresh Icons
Sometimes the scan icon disappears due to driver or profile corruption.
Steps:
- Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners
- Remove the printer
- Restart your computer
- Re-add the printer and check for scan options
4. Check for Optional Features
On Windows, scan features may be hidden under optional components.
- Go to Settings > Apps > Optional Features
- Ensure Windows Fax and Scan is installed
- You can launch it from the Start menu and select your printer
Let me know which operating system you’re using and whether the printer is connected via USB or Wi-Fi, and I’ll tailor the steps further.
You’ve already done the right thing by noticing the icon change—now we’ll make sure scanning is fully restored.
