Hello,
That definitely sounds frustrating, those black lines usually indicate a scanner hardware or calibration issue. Let’s try a few quick checks to isolate the problem:

1. Clean the scanner glass and underside of the lid:

Turn off the printer and unplug it.

Open the scanner lid and clean both the main glass and the narrow strip glass (ADF strip) using a soft lint-free cloth slightly dampened with glass cleaner.

Even a small speck of dust or ink on that strip can cause thick black lines.

2. Check if it happens only with ADF (top feeder) or also on flatbed:

Try scanning a page directly from the flatbed glass.

If the black lines only appear when scanning through the ADF, the issue is likely with the ADF scan strip or dust inside the feeder path.

3. Run “Scanner Calibration” or “Scanner Maintenance” from the printer control panel or HP Smart app.

This can realign and correct scan sensor issues.

4. Update the printer firmware via HP Smart App.
