I have boxes of old photos, many are in poor condition but I also have the original negatives. Is there an easy way to scan the negatives and convert to photographs? If necessary willing to buy an accessory. Ideas really appreciated.

If you have boxes of these items - it might be best to purchase a Scanjet / slide / scanner.
These used to be readily available - not sure about "lately".
Home Remedy?
The article below (and cute device it describes how to make) has been around for years.
No, I've never had cause to use it - I admit am intrigued by the idea. I post for people now and again. Never heard back from anyone who actually built and used the device...
Content says it was updated in 2019 - so it is not abandoned.

Many thanks for the super quick reply - really appreciated. I’ll follow up soon and keep you posted on success.
Really surprised that there’s no commercial fix given the number of families that, like me, have inherited a box of memories worth restoring.
