I see that you were interacting with @KrazyToad, I'd like to help.

Thanks for the reply.

I appreciate your time and effort.

I understand the issue better now.

I made a deep research and found that there a firmware update available which should fix this issue.

Firmware can be updated from the printer display itself, make sure printer is connected to internet and follow the below steps.

  1. Navigate to the printer update feature. Menu names and icons vary by printer.
  2. Touch or press the HP ePrint icon or button ( or ), touch or press Settings or Setup if necessary, then touch or press Product Update or Check Product Updates.
  3. If you are prompted to sign up or accept terms of service, follow any on-screen instructions to enable Web Services and setup automatic updates. This procedure sets up the printer's Internet connection so it can receive updates.

  4. If the printer does not automatically start the update process, select Check for Updates or a similar menu to start the update.

Click here and refer the document to perform the above steps.

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers.

Hi @Lc118

Welcome to HP Support Forums. A really great platform for posting all your questions and finding solutions.

I understand that your Printer takes a long time to Copy but it prints fine.

I'd like to help.

I suggest you do a Printer Reset.

(1) Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
(2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
(3) With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
(4) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
(5) Wait at least 60 seconds.
(6) Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
(7) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
(8) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

if the issue persists, you can try updating the Firmware,

Note: You need a Windows computer to update the Firmware since the Firmware cannot be updated using Mac OS.

Let me know how it goes.

Thank you. 🙂

Thank you for your response. I followed the reset steps to the letter and no help. (Printer firmware is listed as CFP 1FN 1750BR. MacBook Pro is El Capitan 10.11.6.)

I have found under settings on the little printer screen, after “paper size and type” it says “letter, photo paper”. My guess is that the printer thinks I am copying a photo and is super slow scanning for a good copy of a photograph. I can find no settings to change it to read “letter size, plain paper”. Any suggestions?

Thanx for the reply, especially about a firmware update direct from the printer. however, this may not be necessary -- i have been pondering the steps that may have led to this problem. Shortly afterI installed the printer, I printed a 4X6 photo. On the MacBook screen, I selected 4X6 photo paper. I inserted the 4X6 photo paper into the printer drawer. When you close the drawer, it asks on the tiny printer screen,"did you load plain paper, , letter" . This query does not stay on the screen very long. 5 or 6 seconds. Turns out I must have also, on the printer screen, selected 4X6, photo. A day later, when I went to copy an 8 1/2 X 11, the printer was still set for photo paper. When I changed it to "plain paper, letter" the copier ran okay, not fast, 15 seconds for the page. Much better than 4 and a half minutes! Anyway, so far so good, thanx for the feedback.

I don’t believe I still have the issue. Seems to work ok as long as I set the paper size and type on the printer screen. So I must conclude this was a case a pilot error. 😑.. With my old HP printer, all I had to do was select print options, paper size, type, orientation, etc. on the MacBook. Appears now I have to pay attention to both MacBook and printer screens. Not happy about this but I can live with it. Thanx to you both for your help.
