Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

LaserJet MFP M28W
macOS 10.14 Mojave

I Bought yesterday a new Laserjet Pro MFP 28W

Installation went well with HP Easy start but impossible to "connect to the scanner".

Tried the installation in USB, WIFI, from my iMac and  my MacBook, still the same error.

- HP Easy start downloaded from HP Website (last version)

I've done so far :

- Uninstall all printers,

- "reset the printing settings"

- removed all HP folder and files under /Library/Printers

- removed all files under /Library/Image capture

- reboot system

- upgrade the printer firmware with the last file provided on the HP Printer's support page

- re-install everything

Never been able to get access to the scanner (print is working fine). I get the error from EasyScan as it's impossible to connect to the scanner

Tried to scan by using Apple Image Capture App but get the error "9923"...

Exact same error on both my iMac and MacBook both under Mac 10.14

Went through all forums, help pages, etc... did everything during hours (I've an IT Degree and I'm a CTO). Still not able to make it work despite hours spent on it.

If I don't get a solution very soon I'll bring back the printer and will never buy a HP one again

After a lot of search and tests, I finaly have fixed the issue. I have found anothing about this issue and fix on the internet so I post it here as it may help some of you :

The solution is :

- Desactivate IPv6

How to desactivate :

- Confugure your printer with a network access

- Launch HP Utility

- Click on "Network settings'' the "IPv6"

- uncheck the "Activate IPv6" box

Other method :

- Confugure your printer with a network access

- connect to the printer own webpage (using Bonjour protocal or the IP Address of the printer"

- click on "Networking" tab then "Advanced"

- Uncheck the "IPv6" check box

- Save

A warm welcome to HP Forums! This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.

Changing from IPv4/IPv6 support to IPV4 only may resolve the issue. Let's try these steps:

1.) On the printer control panel, press and hold the Start Copy button , and then release it when the Ready light  blinks to print a Network Configuration Page, locate printer IP address or IPv4 address.

2.) Open a web browser on your Mac and type the printer IP address onto the address bar and hit Enter. The EWS information page for the printer opens.
3.) Click the Network or Networking tab.
4.) Click Advanced
5.) Un-check IPv6, then click Apply. Wait for the changes to take affect.

6.) Restart Printer and Mac.
7.) Try to Scan.

Let me know how it goes!
