Hi,

I have a problem with the multifunctional laser printer.

It always appears offline in the HP Smart windows app, so I cannot scan or do anything from that app.

The printer is connected via a wired network to the PC.

Printing from the PC works

Re-installing and adding the printer in the app also works(the printer is detected and installed by the app, and after that, in the main screen it is shown as "printer offline")

The only issue I have with the printer is that the toner is at very low(8%).

Other than replacing the cartridge, I have tried to power it off, power it on, take out the power cable and leave it for half an hour..

Do you have any advice on what I should do next?

Best Regards,

Andrei

Hi @Andrei123123

Let's check the 'Use printer offline' setting -

1) Open Devices and Printers.
2) Right-click the printer and select See what's printing.
3) Select Printer, and then select to clear any selections next to Pause Printing or Use Printer Offline, if selected.

4) If you removed a selection, try to print.

If the issue still persists, click on this link to download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor.

Hello,

So, I tried uninstalling everything linked to HP and the printer, I reinstalled the HP smart app, it detects the printere, I follow all the steps, and in the end, in the device overview the printer still appears offline.

Even though the printer is offline I can still print!

I have turned off the firewall on the PC- it doesn't change anything.

The only error I ever got was while trying to print with low toner and one time I got an error like" You're out of support"

I also put in a new original HP cartridge and the issue is the same.

This is what I see in HP smart:

Could you please check in your PC's Wi-Fi settings if your PC is connected to the router or the printer's Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi Direct)?

Let me know.

Hello,

PC is connected through cable. I am able to both ping the printer and also open its webpage.

Thanks,

Andrei

Step1 Remove the printer from the HP Smart app.

Step2 Add the printer using TCP/IP port -

1) In the search box, type and open "Printers and Scanners" > Click on "Devices and Printers" located on the right side of the screen.

2) Click on "Add a Printer" located on the top of the "Devices and Printers" screen.

3) Click on the "The printer that I want isn’t listed" is not listed.

4) Click on "Add a printer using TCP/IP" > Enter the IP address and follow the on-screen instructions.

Step3 Add the printer again on the HP Smart app.

Hello Asmita,

Thank you for the fast replies...but you're missing the point here. I can print but I cannot scan!

The issue here is with the HP Smart an this MFP that I have. Hp smart cannot detect the printer any more

The above steps should help us fix the offline error in the HP Smart app.

For scan issue, I'd suggest check the Windows Image Acquisition settings. Refer to step#3 from here

Hello Asmita,

The error is in the HP Smart app.

After re-installing the HP app, the printer is detected as online and I have to click on it to add it to the app. But after I click on it, the app loads the printer like I showed you in the picture from the previous post.

I have searched more about this issue and it seems that a windows update package might cause the issue. Do you know which, in order to check what updates I have installed?

BR,

Andrei

I'm afraid there's no definite way to find out if the Windows Updates are causing this issue with the HP Smart app. But what we can try is to restore the computer back to the date when it worked by performing a system restore -

1) Save any open files and close all open programs.
2) In Windows, search for restore, and then open Create a restore point from the results list.
3) On the System Protection tab, click System Restore.
4) Click Next.
5) Click the Restore Point that you want to use, then click Next.
6) Click Finish to restore your computer to a previous point.
7) Do not interrupt System Restore when it starts. This can corrupt your hard drive and create more problems. 😎 Click Yes in the warning that appears.
9) System Restore returns the computer configuration to a previous point in time and restarts.
