Latest firmware update has broken my ability to scan from my MacBook

I'm running macOS 11.7.10 on an older iMac and was able to downgrade the firmware on my ethernet-attached 8740.  Scanning from various apps on my Mac is now working again, and the HP printer utility is also working again :-).  I have not checked to see whether this process also removes the problem where older, genuine HP cartridges cannot be installed in the printer, but I expect that it will.  The downgrader installed firmware version WEBPDLPP1N001.1003B.00 on my 8740.

Be sure to disable firmware updates on your printer before you start and confirm once you are done.  

Note that you'll need to use the workaround in the youtube video linked in the discussion.  this simply involves copying the downgrader to your desktop and running xattr -cr on the app from a terminal session.

Thanks a lot for sharing. I followed the instructions and was able to downgrade the firmware on my OfficeJet pro 8730. Now I can scan again from all my Macs without having to use the HP utility, as before. Back in business 😀

I was able to downgrade the firmware version WEBPDLPP1N001.2337A.00  on my OfficeJet Pro 8730 attached to an old  iMac 27" running Monterey 12.7.1.

The downgrader installed firmware version is WEBPDLPP1N001.1903B.00.

The scanner now works as before from the native tools.
