Does this happen both from the document feeder and the if you scan off the flat glass? If yes then you likely have a hardware issue. A sample of the defect would be helpful. If it only happens from the document feeder then likely there is debris on the glass.
This video shows proper cleaning procedures to fix vertical streaks on scans. This video shows the HP Color LaserJet Pro but the steps are similar for any product with an ADF. Take special note that many models have a plastic film over the ADF slit glass which must not be removed. If removed the ADF will jam and you would need to replace it.
