I've noticed numerous threads where people have asked where the .tmp temporary scans are stored and if they're recoverable and each time the community and even HP agents say it can't be recovered or they're lost so I thought I'd post how I successfully recovered mine. I recently shredded a document too quickly after scanning only to realise that HP scan had failed to save five pages as a single PDF, and the program "hung" due to lack of memory / other programs (running on a Pavillion All-in-One W10 64bit). Although I could still see the temporary scan files on-screen in the frozen program, there was no way to un-freeze HP Scan and I was annoyed to have apparently lost all the scans altogether. Having poked around I found / copied the .tmp scan files but was initially unable to convert them by changing the file type so I resorted to finding a recovery program (for lost photos) hoping this might work and it did:- I expect there are others but I used Disk Digger at https://diskdigger.org and ran a basic scan of the hard drive then sorting by the time the files were created. Sure enough in between some irrecoverable files (and the failed lnk file to the intended pdf), the five scans were intact and "recoverable" even showing a preview on-screen. If it helps my location was \\Users\myname\AppData\local\Temp\hpscanxxxxx and the file format was a temporary version of a .bmp format 8bpp Indexed Width 1654 Height 2338 if you're trying to convert from another program. I hope this helps all the other closed threads where HP said it was impossible!

The location would likely be the same as that is the default Windows location for storing temp files. Glad to hear you found a resolution and were able to recovery your files.
