I have a new computer and downloaded the software and drivers (full).  It appears that the driver or software doesn't download.   When I use the Scan / Print Doctor it says that I must download the full package.  It deletes the old and downloads but for some reason I never get the full package.  Help?????

Greetings @Mga1471

Welcome to HP Forums and Thanks for the post.

I understand that you are unable to install the printer software on your computer running on Windows 7, is that right?

Kudos to you for trying to troubleshoot the issue on your own.

Not to worry, I will be glad to assist you.

How is the printer connected to your computer? USB or wireless.

Have you tried to download the printer software on a different browser or a computer?

Recommend you uninstall any HP printer software and settings completely if you have it already installed by following the procedure mentioned below and install it back.

Uninstall the printer from "programs and features" which can be accessed from the Control panel.

(Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)

Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it.

(Device manager can be accessed from the Control panel.)

Go to devices and printers, select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.

Click on print server properties.

You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there, if any.

Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.

Restart the PC.

Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,

Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.

It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files, ignore them).

If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.

Restart the PC again.

Download the latest full feature driver from www.hp.com/drivers or click here and install it on the computer.

Power On/Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.

Let me know if this helped. Good Luck.

Believe it or not I found the printer cable and I plugged my computer directly to the printer.  When I did that it automatically found the printer and installed all software and drivers and the scanner is now working.

Ok... Ithought it worked for awhile but I get the same message.  I am using windows 7.   The printer is attached wirelessly (though I have a printer cable if needed).  I normally use Google Chrome as my web browser but have also tried Internet Explorer 11.  When I download the complete file it says that it is 173MB of data and I have downloaded that amount.  I have also turned off the Windows firewall.  I have not tried to download to another computer in fear that it will stop working.  I can't risk it.

I downloaded the scan doctor and it says that not all software was downloaded so it wants to delete and reinstall the full program.

Can I shut my wireless off and wire directly to my cable box?  Will that give me something different on the download then wirelessly?

What next?

Thanks for the reply, I did download the file on my computer with chrome, IE and edge without any issues.

Recommend you reset the Internet options on your computer and try to download again.

Recommend you to open control panel from the Windows menu.

Select view by category and change it to small or large icons (You will find this option on the top-right side of the control panel window)

Select internet options.

On the internet options window, on the top right-side click on advanced.

On the advanced tab, towards the bottom, you will have an option to reset.

Please click on reset and follow the onscreen options.

Make sure to have all the applications closed on your computer during the reset.

Once it is reset, download it again and install it on your computer.

Let me know how it goes.

I did what was recommended but I still can't get it to work.   However I can plug the printer cable into the computer and then the scanner works.  It just doesn't work wirelessly.   Any other ideas?

Thanks for the reply and trying the suggested steps, as you are able to scan using the USB cable, recommend you follow the procedure to assign a manual IP address to the printer and disable IPV6 and your printer should work fine over wireless as well.

  • Obtain the IP address of the printer (which can found by pressing the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel)
  • Enter the IP address on the web browser (Ex: chrome, IE) to enter the printer EWS page.
  • Go to the “Network” tab, click on “Wireless (802.11) then click on “Network address (IPV4)
  • Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.

Refer to this Article and follow the procedure mentioned under "Disable IPv6 (network connections only)" in the bottom of the article to disable IPV6 and it will resolve the issue you are facing.

If the issue persists, please create a new user account on your computer with admin rights and install the printer again.

Keep me posted.
