HP M425dw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently checked the HP Support pages for my HP M425dw MFP, and spotted there was a new firmware available

"HP_LaserJet_M425_MFP_Series_FW_Update_20180205.exe"

One of the "fixes" listed is "Upgraded to SMBv2 support" - so I went ahead and updated my printer's firmware

At first,  I didn't notice anything amiss, until I tried scanning (to a network folder), and found that my scans were all going to the same base file, (as set in the filename prefix in the printer's control panel), and as the filename was not incrementing, each scan overwrote the file from the previous scan

After trying lots of things to resolve this (incl. using a different username & network folder, and changing my network's SMB defaults), I found a prior firmware that I had (luckily) saved

"M425_MFP_Series_FW_Update-20150410.exe"

After running this, and downgrading my printer's firmware - file name incrementing instantly started to work again (I didn't even have to power-cycle my MFP)

Judging by this, and other similar posts that showed up in a Google search results, I conclude that the filename auto numbering is either broken or has been removed in the latest firmware

I'm out of warranty/support on this printer, so can someone feed this back to the firmware developers ?

Thanks

Hi,

I'm using a HP OfficeJet Pro X576dw (Win 10) and upgraded from LZP1CN1604AR to LZP1CN1829BR (released 31-Jul-2018) ... with trepidation given other reports, but needed to get rid of SMBv1.

Happy to report for me both scanning to a network folder, and scan numbering seems to work fine for me.

Just make sure you reboot the Windows machine after each step turn off SMBv1 / enable SMBv2 (and 3).

Good luck!

I had disabled SMB1 & enabled SMB2/3,

But I didn't mention, that target network folder I was scanning to was not on a windows machine - it was/is on a Synology NAS

Anyway, the M425dw has now gone to the scrap-heap, and has been replaced by a M477fdw

(same printer network cable, same printer IP settings etc, also nothing has changed on the NAS)

The M477 scans to the same target folder ok, and increments the scan number ok too

So,

given that the M425 & the M477 both scaned to the same (NAS/network) folder, and

given that the M477 increments ok, but the M425 doesnt increment

- this points to a problem at the printer end of things

And,

given that the M425 increments ok on one version of M425 firmware, but fails to increment on another version of M425 firmware, and that this failure-to-increment, can be reversed simply by reverting to the previous firmware

- surely this points to a firmware fault ?

Please correct me if my logic is at fault
