I can no longer scan since installing OS Catalina on my iMac. I've reinstalled latest HP software and drivers but it doesn't work.
I just get:
Scanner reported an error
The operation couldn’t be completed. (com.apple.imagecapture error 4294957375.)

Hi,
Make sure your operating system is up to date with macOS 10.5.3, click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.
Next, make sure the latest HP drivers are installed by following HP Easy Start below:

Same for me. I’ve done all the obvious thank you very much things like resetting printers in Mac OS, uninstalled and reinstalled all software. This error happens only printing over the network, usb works great. All software programs that try to reach out to the scanner give this error (image capture, hp software, neat, etc). I have no idea if this is after updating to Catalina since I never tried scanning with this printer/scanner before. I have the HP Laser Jet Professional M1217nfw MFP

I also have this problem. My MacBook Pro has MacOS 10.15.3 (Catalina) with all updates current. I have downloaded and installed the HP Easy Start-2 app. The error still happens!
Your post is dated 2/4/2020 and it is now 3/22/2020. I do not see any replies indicating success.
Is this an HP problem, or is it an Apple Catalina problem?
Thanks,
Beckinc
Following my initial post, I have found a work around. It is not elegant but does provide a means to scan copies under Catalina.
On your Mac, navigate to the Applications folder and then the Image Capture application. This application allows you to scan images (both documents and pictures) and save them on your Mac in many of the normal file formats.

Kumar,
Thank you for your input. I personally went thru each and every step in the link you provided and get different responses (if any) for each one.
HP Easy Scan:
You get that same error with apple's image capture and opening the scanner from the system preferences/printers
Using HP Smart - first off, it didn't find my printer so it loaded the "generic" version and this is what happens
Then tried via IP
Apple Image Capture
And then I tried Scan To Network found in the FAQs at the end of that page and that just ultimately brought me to
This works fine using an USB cable but obviously, we are trying to use it over the network AND this is after the latest OS upgrade from Tuesday 10.15.4
Any other ideas?? HELP!!!!
Thank you.

@Bbduck, thank you for the detailed information.
Make sure the printer is not in sleep mode while scanning. If the printer is in sleep mode, kindly press any button on the printer to wake it up and then try scanning.
If the issue persists, On the printer, go to Setup > Network Config > Network services > IPv6 > Set to Automatic.
Now, try scanning.
Let me know how this goes.
