I have read over 25 forum answers and HP always suggest we install their software but every time I try the software it says it can't install. When I try to install the firmware HP suggests, the installer says it's not needed. Same for the latest update. And yet, I CAN'T SCAN - ANYTHING, ANYWAY. Not with Apple Image Capture, PDF Scanner, or the scan utility because HP hasn't made a Mac driver for my model. Why!?!?!?! There is no workaround for this. Do you really expect me to buy a new HP All In One because you wouldn't maintain this one?
Thanks for the rant and I truly look forward to feeling like a rude a** for posting this. In other words, I look forward to a solution.
Sincerely,

A warm welcome to HP Community!
HP Easy Start application will help set up your HP printer and prepare your Mac for printing. HP Easy Start will locate and install the latest software for your printer and then guide you through printer setup. You may download HP Easy Start from here.
HP OfficeJet Pro 6970 printer is AirPrint compatible, if the printer is connected to your home WiFi, then you can setup the printer with Apple AirPrint rather than using HP Easy Start application.
Here is how to do it:
1.) Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.
2.) Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.
3.) If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button at the bottom of the list.
4.) Click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name.
5.) Click the Use or Print Using menu, select AirPrint or Secure AirPrint in the pop-up menu. Then click Add.
6.) Try to print and scan.
Let me know how it goes!

HP Easy Start refuses to install. It drops down the message, "This software cannot be installed. Try again later." And, it won't let me uncheck the Essential Software and attempt an Easy Scan install alone. Sorry, thought I made that clear. I see I didn't.
The printer works just fine. I bought an all in one so I could have an all in one.

I believe HP Easy Start normally installs HP Utility and HP Easy scan. You may download and install HP Easy Scan and HP Utility from the links below:
HP Printer Utility for Mac OS X
Instructions on how to use HP Easy Scan can be found here.
