-2017 macbook pro, high Sierra 10.13.6

-had been using the laser jet pro mfp on my windows pc but need to use with MacBook temporarily

-MacBook recognizes printer fine and can print

-does not recognize it as a scanner; trying with HP Easy Scan

Is the printer connected via USB or through the network?

Download and install below firmware update for your printer, when you are done restart your printer:

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/FW_CPE_Consumer/M28-M31_1D/HP_Laserjet_Pro_M28-M31_Multifu...

 

If the scanner not yet appears, restart your Mac and remove the printer from System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, then click the plus sign and select the printer listed as a USB multifunction type.

 

Can you now see the scanner added?
