macOS 10.13 High Sierra

my macOS 10.13 does not recognize scan option on OfficeJet Pro 9010 - only printing and faxing. How do I enable that?

Also, if the ONLY way is to use HP Smart from AppStore -  it does not work on macOS below 10.14 - I have 10.13 and it is not upgradeable - where can I get a version that works on 10.13?

Hi @DmitriK,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you are facing a scan related issue with your HP Officejet Pro 9010. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

To assist you better:

  • Were you able to scan to PC prior to the issue?
  • Was there any update done on the PC  or printer?
  • Do you use any other scanning application apart from HP Smart?

While you respond to that, please try scanning using the HP Easy Scan app designed for macOS.

To know more about how to scan on Mac - Refer to this Video.

Currently, we have drivers available till Mac OS 12. it will be released soon on the HP Support Website

I was never able to scan using this unit - again, MacOS 10.13 does not recognize this unit as having scan options - only PRINT and FAX. So no other applications works with it either. I already reset macOS Print System, and it recognized HP OfficeJet Pro Series 9010 as a Bonjour printer (and fax), but not as SCANNER.

When checking Printer Update status from printer console it states that all latest updates have been applied. HP Firmware Updater app (available at https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-officejet-pro-9010-all-in-one-printer-series/239...) runs but states that it "cannot update the device. This Firmware Updater does not contain upgrades for your device" - weird, because the page states:

Your link to video would be helpful, but MY MAC does NOT RECOGNIZE THE UNIT AS A SCANNER!

drivers for macOS 12 - mazl tov! Does not apply to me, since I am on 10.13 - but GREAT JOB!

So, in short, can not click Accepted Solution” because your post did not solve my issue at all. Will click the “Kudos/Thumbs Up" on the bottom right to say “Thanks” for helping when you actually help!

So HP Easy start app insists that I download HP Smart app - which does not work on 10.13 - so it's a loop.

How do I enable SCAN feature?

@DmitriK,

Thank you for your response, but just wanted to know if you have tried to use HP Easy Scan.

Remove the printer from the PC and then try to add it back, if you do not use the other printers then it would be better to reset the printing system once.

Reset the printing system on your Mac. ( Make sure you have all the drivers for your printer before performing this step)

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Printers & Scanners .
  2. Press and hold the Control key as you click in the list on the left, then choose “Reset printing system” from the menu that appears.
  3. After you reset the printing system, the list of printers in Printers & Scanners preferences is empty.
  4. Re-add your printers.

Scan images in Image Capture on Mac

  • Connect your scanner to your computer, then turn on your scanner.
  • In the Image Capture app on your Mac, select your scanner in the Devices or Shared list.
  • Select your printer
  • Scan your images.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi,

Apologies for jumping in, generally your printer is supported on macOS 10.14 or later versions, the HP Smart app is not supported on any older OS version as macOS 10.13.

One option would be to upgrade your operating system if possible and then use the HP Smart app:

https://support.apple.com/en-il/HT201541

Another alternative would be to use digital filing capabilities such as Scan to Email or a Network Folder, these can be set up n your Mac:

HP OfficeJet Pro 9010, 9020 printers - Set up and use a Scan to Network Folder (Windows, Mac)

HP OfficeJet Pro 9010, 9020 Printers - Set Up and Use Scan to Email

As well other options such as HP HP Smart app Shortcuts which allow scanning to cloud services or email, but can be set up from a supported device such as a mobile device or another computer with a supported operating system to setup cloud scanning through the app or from the printer front panel:

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_4129352-4129404-16

Another option would be to try the 3rd party Vuescan application which seems to support your scanner:

https://www.hamrick.com/vuescan/hp_officejet_pro_9010.html#technical-information

Hope any of these methods may help,

Shlomi

@Anand_Andy,

I HAVE reset printing system before posting here - I have exhausted all options available in Troubleshooting section of hp.com; and from the Virtual Assistant - and was hoping to get to the next level of support with this message board.

I am not sure how else to explain my problem, since it seems I am failing to communicate what it actually is.

macOS 10.13 does NOT recognize this unit (OfficeJet Pro 9010 Series) as having a scan feature (as seen on the screenshot I attached) - only as a PRINTER and FAX.

So any advice to use a third-party app to scan is NOT going to work, if the SYSTEM does not see this unit as SCANNER - not Image Capture, not VueScan, not HP Easy Scan - if the SYSTEM does not see it as SCANNER - it won't work.

So my question remains unanswered - how do I make macOS10.13 to recognize that OfficeJet Pro 9015 is a scanner as well as printer and fax? Unless you are telling me that this unit just does not work with macOS10.13
