HP OfficeJet Pro 6968 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

My Office Jet Pro 6968 will no longer make copies when I lay a paper on the glass flat bed. It will make a copy using the feeder but some things cannot be put through the feeder like small pieces of paper. I have tried unplugging from the printer and from the wall outlet, deleted and reinstalled software for the printer. If I lay a photo or document on the flat bed and use the scanner it will scan but, I do not want to have to scan every time I need to make a quick copy. Quite inconvenient. Anyone have any suggestions ?

Hi @Semcla,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you've already tried some troubleshooting steps for your HP OfficeJet Pro 6968 All-In-One Printer, but you're still experiencing issues with making copies using the flatbed scanner. Here are some additional steps you can take to try and resolve the problem.

  • Check for Paper Jams: Make sure there are no small pieces of paper or debris stuck in the flatbed scanner area. Even a tiny piece of paper can cause scanning issues.
  • Clean the Scanner Glass: Sometimes, smudges or dirt on the scanner glass can affect the quality of scans and copies. Clean the glass surface with a lint-free cloth and a mild glass cleaner.
  • Reset the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and leave it unplugged for a few minutes. Then, plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes help reset any internal issues.
  • Update the Firmware: Check if there's a firmware update available for your printer on the HP website. Updating the firmware can often resolve software-related problems.
  • Check Copy Settings: Ensure that the copy settings are correct. Sometimes, changes in settings can affect the copying process. Set the copy settings to default and try again.
  • Inspect for Error Messages: Look for any error messages or codes displayed on the printer's screen when trying to make a copy. These messages can provide clues about what's causing the issue.
  • Test with Different Paper: Sometimes, the type or condition of paper can cause problems. Try using different types of paper to see if the issue persists.
  • Perform a Factory Reset: As a last resort, you can try performing a factory reset on your printer. This will reset all settings to their default values, so be prepared to reconfigure your printer after doing this.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it's possible that there may be a hardware problem with the flatbed scanner.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
