After setting up new printer including alignment I cannot find any instructions on manually scanning and printing from the scanner. I presume when the scanner lid is lifted the copy buttons light up. I cannot get the buttons to light up unless I hold the information button. It then prints the status page only. Printing is successful using wifi but not manually.
When searching the problem through the support app I’m told to wait until the busy printer completes its task. But it has no task as I can’t get it to work manually.

Hi @Pedro157,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
I can imagine how frustrating it must be to set up a new printer and not have manual functions like scanning and printing work as expected. Let’s get this sorted out so you can enjoy the full functionality of your HP Smart Tank 7005 All-in-One. 😊
- When you press the physical buttons, do you see any response on the printer's display, such as error codes or flashing lights?
- Are you able to perform any functions directly from the printer, like copying, without using Wi-Fi?
- Have you tried restarting the printer or checking for firmware updates?
Let's try these steps.
1. Reset the Printer
- Unplug the printer while it’s powered on.
- Wait for 60 seconds and plug it back in.
- Check if the buttons respond when you lift the scanner lid.
2. Check Scanner Functionality
- Open the scanner lid and place a document on the scanner glass.
- Press the Copy (Black) or Copy (Color) button on the control panel.
- If the buttons still don’t light up, try holding the Cancel or Home button to reset any pending tasks.
3. Update Firmware
- Use the HP Smart app or visit the HP Support website to ensure your printer has the latest firmware installed.
- Follow the update instructions and test the manual functionality afterward.
4. Perform a Button Test
- Hold down the Information button and another operation button (e.g., Copy or Cancel).
- Observe whether the printer prints a diagnostic page or shows any indicator that the buttons are functional.
- If no response, this may indicate a hardware issue.
5. Hard Reset and Reinitialize Setup
- Restore the printer to factory settings by holding down the Cancel and Wi-Fi buttons simultaneously for 5-10 seconds.
- Reinitialize the setup through the HP Smart app. Ensure you complete the printer alignment steps during this process.
If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it could be a hardware malfunction with the control panel or a configuration problem.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
