I am trying to send a Mobile Fax from the HP Smart app. I get the following error after attempting to send:
Something went wrong!
It seems that an error has occurred before the sending process. Please, try to send your fax again.
It does not work at all. I have ensured that I have a proper recipient fax number.

Hi @kessam3,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
The error “Something went wrong!” in HP Smart Mobile Fax usually means the app couldn’t start the sending process due to a configuration or connectivity issue. Here’s how you can fix it:
Step 1: Check Mobile Fax Requirements
- Ensure Mobile Fax is enabled in the HP app:
- Open HP App → Personalize Tiles → Enable Mobile Fax.
- Confirm you are signed in to your HP account.
- Mobile Fax works only for sending faxes, not receiving, and cannot send to VoIP numbers.
Step 2: Verify Internet Connection
- Make sure your device has a stable internet connection (Wi-Fi or mobile data).
- If using a VPN or firewall, temporarily disable it can block fax transmission.
Step 3: Update HP App
- Go to your app store and update or install from: HP App – For HP Printers, Laptops, and Tech Accessories | HP® Official Site.
- Outdated versions often cause this error.
Step 4: Check File Size and Format
- Mobile Fax supports PDF files only, up to 50 pages or 20 MB.
- If your file is too large, split it or compress it before sending.
Step 5: Retry After Clearing Cache
- Close the HP app completely and reopen it.
- If the error persists, remove and re-add your printer in the app.
Step 6: Try Sending Without a Cover Page
- Sometimes cover page templates cause issues. Disable it and retry.
