OK, got past my last problem, now I'm up against a new one.
To review, I'm simply trying to tell my printer where to save scans. I want the scans to go to a folder 📂called "Scans." Nothing could be simpler, right? I'm using the EWS Network Scan Folder setup. I printed out the directions📃. I choose Scan to Network Folder, then Network Folder Setup. It sends me through 3 steps. First, I configure the network folder I want. The second step is to give the printer my Login credentials🖥 for the computer....I think. I don't know if that means the standalone computer or my Microsoft account. I do not know the credentials for my computer, I set them when I first set it up, then I've used the 4 digit PIN option ever since. I didn't think I'd ever need to worry about it. So, how do I get past this credentials thing?

The printer requires credentials that have permissions to write files. What I often do for customers is setup a separate local user on their computer and use that account for scanning. The benefit is that if you happen to change your personal login information it will not affect the scanning.

Sorry, I did not see this reply until now.
That sounds kind of ....what's the word....klugey. I'm wondering why all these passwords and security measures seem to be multplying almost weekly. I wish there were a way of telling all my devices, look, I'm behind a pretty robust firewall (built into my Gryphon router), I don't need all these fancy, complicated security measures, can you please open up my network so that we can pass unaccosted? You don't need to see my login credentials. We are not the hackers you are looking for. Let us go about our business. ....

That has everything to do with either Microsoft or Apple, depending on your OS. HP has to work with what they do.
