I'm getting multiple copies of the documents I scan. For instance, when I scan a 9 page document I get 9 copies of the 9 page document I scanned. The scanner notes up in the left hand corner Scan_20260404 plus 8 more files saved to the desktop.

Hi @FlemFlam1,

It sounds like your HP OfficeJet Pro 8120e is experiencing a "collision" between the HP Smart app settings and your computer’s default scanning behavior. When the software is configured to save individual pages as separate files while also creating a combined PDF, or if the "Auto-Save" feature is looping, you end up with redundant copies of the same scan job cluttering your desktop.
- Adjust the file saving behavior in the HP Smart app.
- Open the HP Smart app and select the Scan tile from the home screen.
- Click on the Settings (gear) icon or the Advanced link before you start your next scan.
- Ensure the Multi-page PDF option is selected and uncheck any box that says Save as separate files or Auto-save to local folder.
- Clear the Scan-to-Computer cache and destination settings.
- Open the HP Printer Assistant or HP Scan software on your desktop.
- Select Scan a Document or Photo and choose your preferred shortcut (like Save as PDF).
- Click More > in the top right corner, go to the Destination tab, and verify that the "Base File Name" isn't set to increment automatically for every single page detected in the feeder.
- Reset the HP Scan digital filing system.
- Close all HP-related programs and restart your computer to clear the temporary scan buffer.
- Go to your Desktop and move the existing "Scan_20260404" files into a new folder to prevent the software from trying to "resume" or "append" to existing filenames.
- Initiate a test scan of just two pages through the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) to confirm the software now generates only one combined file.
For detailed steps on managing scan settings, refer to the official How to scan with an HP printer guide.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀
