Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

My 8-yr-old, lightly used HP Officejet Pro 8610 scanner is suddenly wonky with no recent changes or excessive use. The original-document feeder is on top, but when I activate the scan, the feeder grabs one corner of the sheet first so that the sheet immediately becomes twisted as it enters the scanner and causes a jam. It happens every time--and I'm only using standard copy paper. I haven't changed any of my scan features or done anything unusual at all. I don't know how to check the feeder mechanism, but something clearly is wrong with it. Any ideas?

Hi @LeatherwoodOfc,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

I understand that you are facing issues with scanning.

Have you tried to clean the paper feed and pick rollers?

Did you try to update the printer firmware?

Are you able to print and copy without any issues or paper jams?

Are you using ADF? If so, Open the document feeder access door and you'll see a set of rollers in there.  Those rollers are what grab the paper and feed it into the scanner.  If they are worn smooth, they need to be replaced.  If they are just dirty, clean w/ some rubbing alcohol and that should get the paper going again.  Keep in mind, that heavier stock paper might have a more difficult time making its way through the paper paths on the feeder, and utilizing the flatbed scanner might be a better option.

Hope this helps.

It sounds like the automatic document feeder (ADF) mechanism in your HP Officejet Pro 8610 scanner might be misaligned or malfunctioning. Here's a step-by-step solution to troubleshoot and potentially fix the issue:

  1. Clean the Feeder Rollers: Dust or debris on the feeder rollers can cause paper misfeeds. Open the scanner lid and inspect the rollers for any buildup. Clean them gently with a lint-free cloth dampened with water or rubbing alcohol.

  2. Inspect for Obstructions: Check for any obstructions such as torn paper bits or foreign objects inside the ADF mechanism. Use a flashlight to get a clear view and remove any debris carefully.

  3. Adjust Paper Guides: Ensure that the paper guides inside the ADF tray are properly aligned with the width of the paper. Improper alignment can cause papers to skew or jam. Adjust the guides so that they snugly hold the paper without bending it.

  4. Reset the Scanner: Sometimes, a simple reset can resolve temporary glitches. Turn off the scanner, unplug it from the power source, wait for a few minutes, then plug it back in and power it on.

  5. Update Firmware/Drivers: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your HP Officejet Pro 8610 scanner. Updating the firmware and drivers can sometimes address performance issues and bugs.

  6. Calibrate the ADF: Some scanners have a calibration feature that ensures proper alignment of the ADF mechanism. Check the scanner's user manual or HP's official support website for instructions on how to calibrate the ADF.

  7. Contact HP Support: If the issue persists after trying the above steps, it's possible that there's a mechanical problem with the ADF mechanism that requires professional attention. Contact HP customer support for further assistance or to inquire about warranty coverage or repair options.

By following these steps, you should be able to diagnose and potentially resolve the issue with your HP Officejet Pro 8610 scanner's document feeder.
