@JoeBuzz,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your Canon MB5100 printer can print from your HP Omen but cannot scan directly to it, here are some steps to troubleshoot and fix the issue.

Check Scanner Driver & Software

  • Ensure you have installed the Canon IJ Scan Utility or Canon MF Scan Utility on your HP Omen.
  • Download the latest scanner driver and software.

Verify Scanner is Detected by Windows

  • Open Device Manager (Win + X → Device Manager).
  • Expand Imaging devices or Printers and check if your Canon MB5100 appears.
  • If it has a yellow warning sign, right-click → Update driver.

Check Windows Scan Settings

  • Open Control PanelDevices and Printers.
  • Right-click on the Canon MB5100Start Scan.
  • If it fails, click Scanner PropertiesTest Scanner.

Restart WIA (Windows Image Acquisition) Service

  • Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Find Windows Image Acquisition (WIA).
  • Right-click → Restart.

Ensure the Scanner is Shared Over the Network

  • If you are scanning over a Wi-Fi network, check:
    • Printer is connected to the same network as your HP Omen.
    • Firewall is not blocking scanner communication.
    • Open Windows Defender Firewall → Allow Canon Scan Utility.

Use Windows Scan or Third-Party App

  • Try Windows Scan App (Search "Scan" in the Start Menu).
  • Download NAPS2 (Not Another PDF Scanner) for better scanning options.

Uninstall and Reinstall Printer/Scanner

  • Go to SettingsDevicesPrinters & Scanners.
  • Remove the Canon MB5100, restart, then reinstall the latest drivers.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
