My Officejet 8015e printer/copier/scanner just stopped working. The error message keeps defaulting to finish printer set up (set up incomplete) which I have tried multiple times w/o success. I am connected to my wifi and have tried everything that I can think off???

@Lee413, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It sounds like your HP OfficeJet 8015e printer is experiencing a setup issue that is preventing it from being fully functional. Here are some steps you can follow to try and resolve this issue:

Restart Your Printer and Router:

  • Turn off your printer and unplug your router.
  • Wait for about 30 seconds before plugging your router back in and turning your printer back on.

Check Network Connection:

  • Ensure that your printer is properly connected to the Wi-Fi network. You can do this by printing a network configuration page or checking the wireless network settings on the printer control panel.

Reinstall Printer Software:

  • Remove the current printer software from your computer.
  • Download and install the latest drivers and software from the HP support website.

Complete Printer Setup:

  • Use the HP Smart app to complete the printer setup. Ensure you follow all steps exactly as indicated by the app.

Reset Network Settings:

  • On the printer, reset the network settings to default, then reconnect to your Wi-Fi network. This option is typically available under 'Wireless Settings' or 'Network Settings' in the printer menu.

I hope this helps.

I’ve seen this happen with HP’s “e” series printers before, and it usually comes down to the setup not completing on HP’s servers, even if the Wi-Fi connection looks fine. A few solid things to try:

  • HP Smart app setup → Don’t just use the printer’s control panel; remove it from your devices and add it again through the HP Smart app. That usually completes the missing registration step.

  • Check HP account login → The 8015e requires you to be signed into an HP account. If it’s not linked, you’ll stay stuck in the loop.

  • Reset Web Services → On the printer, turn off Web Services (ePrint/Cloud Print), reboot, and re-enable it. This often clears the error.

  • Wi-Fi details → Make sure you’re on the 2.4 GHz band (many HP models don’t like 5 GHz for setup). Avoid guest networks.

  • Factory reset → If nothing else works, restore the printer to factory defaults and go through setup again from scratch.

If you’ve tried all of this and it still won’t register, it could be a firmware glitch — contacting HP support for a firmware push or replacement is the next step.
