Hi @smitty1290,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP 7900 series printer is not scanning documents from the document feeder and you’re getting a blank page on your laptop, there are several potential issues to consider. Here’s a comprehensive guide to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

**1. Check the Document Feeder

Verify Document Placement:

  • Ensure that the document is placed correctly in the document feeder. The document should be aligned with the paper guides and placed face-up (or face-down, depending on the feeder type) as indicated by the printer’s instructions.

Check for Paper Jams:

  • Open the document feeder and check for any paper jams or obstructions. Gently remove any stuck paper.

Clean the Document Feeder:

  • Dust or debris can affect the document feeder’s performance. Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the rollers in the document feeder area.

**2. Check Scanner Settings and Software

Verify Scan Settings:

  • Open the scanning software on your computer (e.g., HP Smart, HP Scan, or any other scanning software you use) and check the settings. Ensure that you have selected the correct scan source (Document Feeder) and format.

Update Software and Drivers:

  • Ensure that you have the latest version of the scanning software and drivers installed. Visit the HP Support website and download any available updates for your printer model.

**3. Check Printer Firmware

  1. Update Printer Firmware:
    • Check for any firmware updates for your HP 7900 printer. Updating the firmware can resolve scanning issues and improve performance. Download the latest firmware from the HP Support website and follow the installation instructions.

**4. Perform Printer and Scanner Tests

Run a Printer Diagnostic Test:

  • Use the printer’s control panel to run a diagnostic or self-test to check if the document feeder is functioning correctly.

Test Scanning from the Flatbed:

  • Place a document on the flatbed scanner (if available) and attempt to scan it. This will help determine if the issue is with the document feeder or the scanning function overall.

**5. Check Paper Type and Size

Ensure Paper is Compatible:

  • Make sure the paper being used in the document feeder is of the correct size and type. Avoid using damaged, crumpled, or overly thick paper.

Adjust Paper Guides:

  • Ensure that the paper guides in the document feeder are adjusted to fit the size of the document.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
