Hi @Marcyl12,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP printer is going through the motions of printing but nothing comes out, it may indicate that the ink cartridges are empty or there is a problem with the ink delivery system. To check if the ink is used up and find the "tear drop" or ink level indicator, you can follow these steps.

Checking Ink Levels on the Printer Display

  1. Power On the Printer: Ensure the printer is turned on.
  2. Navigate to the Ink Levels Menu: Use the printer's control panel to navigate to the ink levels or ink management menu. This is usually found under "Settings" or "Tools."
  3. Check Ink Levels: Look for an ink icon or a section labeled "Ink Levels," "Estimated Ink Levels," or something similar. This will display the current ink levels for each cartridge.

Checking Ink Levels Using HP Printer Software

  1. Open HP Printer Assistant: On your computer, open the HP Printer Assistant software. This can usually be found by searching for "HP" in your start menu or applications folder.
  2. Access Ink Levels: In the HP Printer Assistant, look for an option to check the ink levels. This is often found under a section like "Estimated Ink Levels" or "Ink Supply Levels."

Checking Ink Levels on HP Smart App (Mobile Devices)

  1. Install HP Smart App: If you haven't already, install the HP Smart app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android).
  2. Add Your Printer: Open the app and add your printer if it's not already listed.
  3. Check Ink Levels: Once your printer is connected, look for an ink levels icon or navigate to a section like "Supplies" or "Printer Status" to view the ink levels.

Manual Inspection of Ink Cartridges

If you prefer a more hands-on approach, you can manually inspect the ink cartridges:

  1. Open the Printer Cover: Open the cover or access door to reveal the ink cartridges.
  2. Remove the Cartridges: Carefully remove the ink cartridges from the printer.
  3. Inspect the Cartridges: Look for a clear plastic window or other indicators on the cartridge that show the ink levels. If the cartridge feels very light, it might be empty.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
