ScanJet 4670
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

ScanJet 4670 used to work under Windows 10 (using I think the vista deriver 64-bit). Now it suddenly no longer does. I get through the scan dialogue to "preview," the scanner warms up, then "chirps" as it does when starting, then I get an error message "Can't connect to scanner"

Welcome to HP Support Community, @mporter111

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP ScanJet 4670 is having trouble connecting or being recognized on Windows 10, follow the steps below to identify and resolve the issue.

1. Verify Scanner Support

The HP ScanJet 4670 is not officially supported on Windows 10.

It lacks dedicated driver support for this version of Windows, which may cause connection or detection issues.

2. Check Driver Compatibility

Ensure you are using the most compatible driver available.

Try installing the Windows Vista (64-bit) driver from the HP Support website — this version has been reported to work in some cases.

If already installed, uninstall and reinstall the driver to ensure a clean setup.

3. Validate USB Connections

Confirm that the USB cable is securely connected to both the scanner and the computer.

Try a different USB port, preferably one located directly on the motherboard (usually at the back of a desktop).

Avoid using USB extension cables or front-panel ports that may cause connectivity issues.

4. Check Device Manager

Open Device Manager → Expand Imaging Devices.

Look for the scanner and check for any warning icons (yellow triangles).

If present:

Right-click the scanner → Select Uninstall Device.

Unplug the scanner, wait a few seconds, and plug it back in.

Windows will attempt to reinstall the necessary drivers automatically.

5. Use a Powered USB Hub

If your scanner or other USB devices are not functioning properly, it may be due to insufficient power supply from USB ports.

Try connecting the scanner via a powered USB hub to ensure stable power delivery.

6. Visit HP Online Resources

Go to the HP Support Website
and search for HP ScanJet 4670.

Check for any firmware updates, driver patches, or compatibility tips for Windows 10.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
