HP DeskJet 2725 All-in-One Printer

My printer, 2725 Deskjet, keeps scanning. I haven't sent anything to it to scan. How do I get it to stop?

I have MacOS Sonoma, there is no error message, and I'm using wireless.

Hi @Jhansen2,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Deskjet 2725 printer keeps scanning without any apparent command, there could be a few reasons behind this behavior. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

  • Check Printer Control Panel: Look at the printer's control panel to see if there are any error messages or prompts that might indicate why it's continuously scanning.
  • Cancel Print Jobs: Sometimes, pending print jobs can cause unexpected behavior in printers. Cancel all print jobs from your computer's print queue to ensure there are no commands waiting to be processed.
  • Restart Printer: Turn off your HP Deskjet 2725 printer, wait for a few seconds, and then turn it back on. This simple step can often resolve many technical glitches.
  • Restart Computer: Reboot your Mac computer to refresh its system processes and clear any temporary issues that might be affecting the printer.
  • Check Printer Settings: Open the printer settings on your Mac and ensure that there are no scanning tasks scheduled or any settings that might trigger automatic scanning.
  • Reset Printer: If the issue persists, try resetting your HP Deskjet 2725 printer to its factory default settings. Refer to the printer's user manual or HP's support website for instructions on how to perform a factory reset.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Make sure your printer has the latest firmware installed. Sometimes, outdated firmware can cause unexpected behavior. You can usually update the firmware through the printer's settings menu or by downloading it from the HP website and following the installation instructions.
  • Reinstall Printer Drivers: Uninstall the printer drivers from your Mac and then reinstall them. This process can help resolve any driver-related issues that might be causing the continuous scanning.
  • Check for Interference: Wireless interference can sometimes cause printers to behave erratically. Move your printer closer to your Wi-Fi router or try changing the wireless channel on your router to see if it improves the situation.

By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and resolve the continuous scanning issue with your HP Deskjet 2725 printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
