My scan to computer on My HP Officejet Pro 7720 was working on Tuesday and then Wednesday it stopped

It says on HP Smart App - You cannot use this function because it has been disabled. For more information, contact the person who set up the printer.

On forums it says to go to HP Assist and enable scanning again

I am not even a little but computer literate so need help on how to enable this on my HP 7720 again

Hi @JTR72,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Product. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to the issue.

It seems the scanning function on your HP OfficeJet Pro 7720 has been disabled in the settings, and you'll need to re-enable it. Follow these step-by-step instructions to resolve the issue:

Solution 1: Enable Scanning in HP Printer Assistant

Open HP Printer Assistant:

  • On your computer, search for "HP Printer Assistant" in the Start Menu or type "HP" and look for your printer’s model.

Find the Scan Settings:

  • In the HP Printer Assistant window, look for an option like "Scan" or "Manage Scan to Computer".
  • If you see "Scan to Computer", click it.

Enable Scan to Computer:

  • You should see an option that says "Enable Scan to Computer" or "Automatically Restart Scan to Computer". Ensure this box is checked.

Test the Scan:

  • Open the HP Smart app and try scanning again.

Solution 2: Enable WebScan (Alternative for Network Issues)

If you cannot enable scanning through the HP Printer Assistant, try enabling WebScan:

Access the Printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS):

  • Find the IP address of your printer:
    • On the printer’s control panel, navigate to Settings > Network Setup > View Network Summary (or similar). The IP address (e.g., 192.168.x.x) will be displayed.
  • Open a web browser and type the IP address into the address bar, then press Enter.

Log In to the Printer’s Settings:

  • If prompted, log in. Use "admin" as the username and leave the password blank, or use the credentials you set up previously.

Enable WebScan:

  • In the EWS, go to the Settings or Web Services tab.
  • Locate Scan or WebScan options, and ensure it is Enabled.

Try Scanning via WebScan:

  • Return to the main page of the EWS.
  • Select Scan > WebScan. You can scan directly from this interface.

Solution 3: Update Printer Software

If the issue persists:

Uninstall and Reinstall the Printer Software:

  • Remove the printer from your computer by going to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
  • Download and reinstall the latest drivers and HP Smart app from the HP Support Website.

Re-enable Scan to Computer:

  • Follow Solution 1 again after reinstalling the software.
