Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Printer: HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw

Connected via USB.

Scanner is not being detected by HP smart or any other scanning software besides HP Scan and Capture, however, when "scanned" from there it doesn't actually scan anything and it'll default to glass even though document feeder has paper loaded. I had a printer that was on the network with this same issue for which I had to enter its IP on a web browser and actually enable the scanning option. That solved the issue so my guess is that it's the same exact thing, but how can I do it on a printer connected via USB.  Also when I try to use the HP Scan app, that's installed during the printer installation, it gives me an error saying HP CLJM277 isn't available. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the printer software which didn't solve the problem. I'm able to print, but cannot scan what so ever.

Hello @alphaCP ,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Try first this:

  1. shut down printer via on/off switch
  2. switch off the router
  3. shut down the computer
  4. wait about 60 sec.
  5. switch on the router, wait until the router has completely initialized itself again
  6. Switch on the printer, wait until the printer has finished its initialization
  7. switch on computer, log in (with admin rights) and wait about 10 sec.

Now start HP Scan, if no error is displayed, then continue with the next step.

Insert a sheet (with the printed side facing up) into the ADF. The touch screen should now display - Document loaded.

Select "Save as JPEG, change Source from Flatbed to Document Feed

Attention: the resolution should display 300 dpi!

Now click on Scan, Scanner is working?

If any errors are displayed, take a screenshot of them.Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

I tried those basic troubleshooting steps. My printer is connected via USB. HP Scan doesn't load up for me, it says I'm missing the HP CLJM277 driver.

The fix somehow was to put the printer onto the network via a wired connection. Now I can use HP Smart to scan documents....

Problem solved. I haven't tried using HP Scan yet, i just use HP Smart.
