@Dina22

Thank you for posting on HP Forums,

Flower_Bud is at your service.

As I understand, your scanner says offline.

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

When was the last time it worked fine?

Are you able to make a photocopy?

How is your printer and computer connected?

Let's try these steps to resolve the issue:

1) Turn off the Router, Printer and the computer.

2) Wait for 60 seconds.

3) Turn on the Router first and wait for all the lights to stabilize.

4) Turn on the printer and allow it to configure itself.

5) Turn on the computer and check the functionality

Once completed, please check the scanner.

If the issue persists, let's try given steps from the document: Click here

Step 1: Confirm if the issue is also printing-related

Step 3: Check the network and printer connection status

Step 4: Check third-party firewall software settings

Step 5: Remove and re-add the printer

Step 6: Uninstall the printer driver and software

Step 7: Reinstall the latest scan driver and software

Step 8: Try other scanning solutions

Step 9: Reset the print system

Let me know how that pans out

I hope you have a good day ahead,

And feel free to ask any other queries as well,

Considering, this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.

Hi @Dina22

It looks like you were interacting with Flower_Bud, but she is out for the day & I'll be glad to help you out. I'm KrazyToad & I'm at your service.

I have gone through your Post and I suggest you directly Reset the printing System

  1. Right-click the blank space in the Printers list, then click Reset printing system....

Figure : Resetting the print system

     Resetting the print system
  2. Click Reset in the confirmation window.

  3. Enter the Administrator name and password, then click OK.

  4. Wait for the printing system to reset. When complete, no printers should display in the list.

  5. Restart the printer

Then reinstall the Printer driver using the Apple Software Update and Airprint.

  1. Click the Apple menu, then click System Preferences.

  2. Depending on your operating system version, click Print & Fax, Print & Scan, or Printers & Scanners.

Figure : Example of the Printers & Scanners window

  3. Check if the name of your printer displays in the Printers list. Do one of the following steps, depending on if the printer is listed or not.

    • If your printer is listed, remove and re-add the printer to confirm communication and to make sure the correct driver is used. Click the name of your printer, then click the minus sign  to delete the printer. Once the printer is removed, click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer, then continue to the next step.

    • If your printer is not listed, click the plus sign, click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer, then continue to the next step.

    • If your printer is not listed in the Add Printer or Scanner window, make sure the printer is connected to the Mac with a USB cable, or that it is on the same wired or wireless network as your Mac.

  4. Click “Print Using...” or “Use”, and then select Secure AirPrint or AirPrint

  5. Click Add to add Airprint to the list.

    • If you are prompted to install software, click Download and Install to complete the installation.

  6. Close the System Preferences window.

Try Scanning and keep me posted how it goes.

Thank you 🙂

Thank you so much this worked even though I had the opposite problem.  My printer said it was "offline", but the scanner worked just fine.  After hours of tearing my hair out yesterday, I don't know why I didn't google search this problem earlier.  What a relief!  Thanks again!!!
