I just purchased the HP OfficeJet Pro 8130e series printer and am trying to scan to my email but it says Network connect error.  How do I set this up?  Which these machines came with manuals for all features!

Hi @AngHer2

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Setting up the "Scan to Email" feature on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8130e series printer and resolving the network connection error can be done with these steps:

Step 1: Verify Network Connection

  1. Ensure your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer or mobile device.
  2. Restart your router and reconnect the printer to the network.
  3. Print a Wireless Network Test Report from the printer’s control panel:
    • Go to Settings > Print Reports > Wireless Test Report.
    • Check for any errors on the report.

Step 2: Configure Scan to Email

  1. Access the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS):
    • Open a web browser and enter the printer’s IP address (found in the Wireless Test Report).
  2. Navigate to Scan > Scan to Email Setup.
  3. Set up an Outgoing Email Profile:
    • Enter your email address and SMTP server details (e.g., Gmail: smtp.gmail.com, Port: 587).
    • Provide your email account credentials.
  4. Save the profile and test the connection.

Step 3: Use the HP Smart App

  1. Download the HP Smart App from the Microsoft Store or App Store.
  2. Add your printer to the app and select Scan to Email.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.

Step 4: Update Firmware

  1. Visit the HP Support website and download the latest firmware for your printer model. Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support
  2. Install the firmware update to ensure compatibility and resolve potential bugs.

Step 5: Troubleshoot Network Error

If the network error persists:

  1. Reset the printer’s network settings:
    • Go to Settings > Network > Restore Network Settings.
  2. Reconnect the printer to your Wi-Fi network using the Wireless Setup Wizard.
