Have the 8720 all in one printer, but looking for a new one with a smaller footprint, max of 17" wide by 14" deep. However, looking for the same options my 8720 has, primarily being able to fax a Word document on my Windows 11, to a group of contacts from my address book (.contacts). Basically from my Word document, I can select the HP fax which brings up the .contacts list, where I am able to then select those I want to fax to, then it automatically faxes to each selected .contact in turn (like my 8720 does). Have a Canon with this footprint, but it only allows one at a time contact to fax to. Would have preferred to email HP directly, but companies today do not seem to want to provide the direct support they used to.

Welcome to the HP Community --
The HP Community is where owners of HP products, like you, volunteer to help each other find solutions.
Do you want to complain that HP are not building the printer you want?
True -- it is harder to contact a company for the purpose of complaining than it is, for example, to purchase something the company makes.
OR
Are you hoping for a recommendation for a "tiny foot" printer that includes "large foot" printer features?
Just guessing...
In my opinion,
I doubt HP makes what you want -- at least not "now".
For example -- an incomplete list...
- Printer mechanics, as long as printers use the current ink technology, are not likely to shrink significantly.
- Tank printers store the ink outside the printer body -- this can reduce depth and height -- the ink is stored on the side, increasing the total width (right to left as you look at the front of the printer).
- Paper -- currently -- must travel through the printer across one or more rollers and at some point make contact with the ink -- either the cartridges or the ink where it is pumped inside the printer..
- Supported paper must be stored in the printer in some fashion, else must be manually stacked each time the printer is used. Manual stack - top feeding - printers are less sophisticated in ways other than just paper loading.
- Fax component hardware takes up more real estate inside the printer.
- Some of the nicer features require more room because the features involve additional hardware -- some things cannot be done with software alone.
It's not the same thing -- a poor analogy:
- A tiny Smart Car will get you from Point A to Point B.
- A Luxury Car will get you from Point A to Point B and provide reasons to enjoy the journey.
I admit I'm biased.
I am also not well versed in the latest "tiny printer" technology.
When will it change?
I don't know -- I would guess within five years we will see something actually new and different in the world or printing content on paper. I could be wrong, of course. I tend to be optimistic about tech.

Dragon-fur: I am just going by the measurements of my Canon printer that does everything that my HP printer did, except for the fact that it only allows single contact faxing, and not a group function that would be included in software that would not effect the size of the printer. For reference, it is a Canon 8620a printer.

Well, that's the problem with responding the way I did.
If the intent is to find a printer,
If Canon makes most of what what you want,
If you can't find an HP alternative at the HP Store,
If the size of the box is more important that what the box can do --
Easy -- get the Canon.
All the big printer manufacturers make a decent product.
I admit I look at things differently from most -- and this time I misjudged the intent and the audience.
No, I don't have a tiny foot print HP recommendation -- I tend to the larger HP OfficeJet Pro "top shelf" models, partly for the reasons you mention -- they do more than most other printers, and do it well.
Withdrawing gracefully.
Good Luck.

Dragon-Fur: That is the problem, the Canon doesn't do what I want, namely to group fax from my computer, as the HP does. The reason I am not using the HP, is due to the limited space I have for the printer, which the Canon fits nicely. I was just hoping I could find an HP printer that would fit the space, that does the group faxing I am looking for. Oh well.
