It's hell every time I buy a new HP printer; and the software seem not to evolve year after year after year.
A simple task should be to set up scan to computer. Well I do not know where to enable this. The HP Smart software tells me that I should speak to myself (the administrator!) but does not tell me where to go do set this up. In old printers, the specific software for the printer had a field under 'scan' to enable scan to PC. On this most modern printer, there's not specific software that I know of and HP Smart is a stone wall.
Hellllppppp; so frustraing.
Also setting up scan to email has been such a frustrating process. Still have not over come that.

Welcome to the HP Community --
HP Smart is an application that supports Scan and Print for Windows, MacOS, and Mobile devices (tablets / phones) -- clever though it is, HP Smart is not the full driver printer software you might have used in years past.
HP Smart does not support enabling the "Scan to Computer" feature because HP Smart is not the full driver where the feature is located.

What else?
The essential full driver printer software has changed over time -- some of the changes are more subtle than are others.
The Web Pack Installation packaging has changed for the Full Feature Software --
The need to install the full driver and then enable the Scan to Computer feature remains the same as in previous years.

HP Full Feature Software / Full Driver printer software - supports printing and scanning from the web, printing in in other software and programs (for example, Word), and provides access to the full range of Printing Preferences / Shortcuts. The full driver adds at least two shortcuts to the Desktop: Printer Assistant and HP Scan. If the printer model includes built-in Fax hardware, the software supports the setup and use of the Fax driver. No Sign-in required.

Very helpful. Thanks
The real question is why make simple features so complicated to get to? This is a major weakness of HP; like having to go through so many useless steps to find out that the printer is NOT instant ink eligible. Simply ridiculous.

Thank you again.
I must insist that HP just 'complifies' everything. I have been using HP for over 20 years and I still get lost. Imagine a new user. The Printer comes with only one way to install, ie HP Smart. Nowhere is a mention of a full suite to run the PC. When I go to the support, their site is not even able to recognize which windows I am using, it cannot detect half their own products, the download site does not explain properly what the new softwares do and how they relate to other stuff. There's a link to 'enroll in Smart ink' but when you click it you have to identify your device and guess what ' it is not eligible' etc etc etc No one seems to be taking a full look at this and make it work for the users.
