Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

Officejet Pro 8620
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I currently have both an HP Officejet 6960 and an HP officejet 8620 in different offices for a traveling user. (bought at different times within the last year).

The 6960 comes with an HP scan software that has a nice interface with presets for type of scan/destination.

For the 8620, it doesn't appear any scan software (outside of OCR software) comes with it. I installed the full software package but nothing is there and I'm not sure why.  The console of the printer does scan fine but i was hoping for some continuity between machines.

I will say the 6960 is on Windows 7 and the HP 8620 is on Win 10 but i am picking the driver from HP by OS.

Anyone here have the 8620 installed on Win 10 ?

Hi @DPPHelpdesk,

Thanks for using the HP Forums.  Apologies for jumping in here.

Can you try this alternative scan software for your HP OJP 8620?

It will have a similar user interface as your new printer.

HP Scan Extended

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi

Once it's downloaded and installed, go to Start > All Programs > HP > HP Scan Extended > Run "HP Scan Extended"

Let us know if that works.

Hi @DPPHelpdesk

Welcome to the HP Forums!

I reviewed your post and I understand that you want the HP scan software for your Officejet 8620 printer as it is not a part of the full feature software.

I’d love to help!

You can download the HP scan and capture software and install it on the computer.

Follow the steps in the below article to download and install it.

Thanks for your reply. I was looking more for the HP Scan software that came with newer printers as it has options for Scan to PDF, Scan To JPG, Email as PDF, EMail as JPG etc...

The software with the 6960 has it but the 8620 is extremely lacking.

Hi @DPPHelpdesk

I would like to inform you that the 8620 use the software version 32.3 and 6960 uses 39.2.

I checked the details and noticed that 8620 is not compatible with the software version 39.2, so you will not able to use it for 8620.

I hope that answers your question.

Thanks, with version 32.3 is there an interface. I believe last time i looked it seemed (at least on Win 10), everything had to be done from the printer itself (outside of that win 10 app you suggested) ?

Hi @DPPHelpdesk

Yes, it has an interface and using which you can scan, fax, check the ink levels and clean the print head.

I hope that answers your question.

Do you have a screenshot of what the app would look like for the scanning on windows 10 (not the store app). I don't have a scan interface on the one i'm looking at and i don't know why.

Hi @DPPHelpdesk,

Glad to hear that your issue is resolved and all is working well now.

It may wrk with some newer printers but no harm trying on other printers 🙂
