Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

OptiPlex 7071
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am unable to find a destination folder to store my scans from my HP ENVY 7858, from the front panel of the printer. If I use the HP Smart app from the desktop all goes perfectly. When I push scan, from the front panel, a small window pops up on my desktop to choose a destination for the scan and it is totally empty. I am unable to add anything to this window as a destination. I would like it to mostly store as a PDF as that is mostly what I use. I do have Adobe installed on my computer. Anybody know how to fix this?

Hi,

You describe WSD scanning from teh operating system, which will default to the flatbed glass and only support image scanning (JPEG), not document scanning as PDF, scanning to a PDF using HP Smart can only be done from the computer and not from the printer front panel.

Please follow HP Easy Start below,. within the Software Selection screen be sure to select the HP Basic or HP Full  Feature Software option:

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/COL96741/HPEasyStart_13_1_5.exe

Once completing the installation open the HP Envy 7800 icon and click on manage Scan to Computer, ensure the future is enabled and be sure to select the exact computer name as listed by the Manage Scan to Computer dialog (with no added words such as Save to XXX) and select Save as PDF.

ShlomiL:

Thank you for your suggestions. I will have to admit that it took several attempts to get it all set up, but I can now scan from the front panel of my printer. Thank you,

Shazzam
