I've got a MBP with M2 chip and macOS v14. It detects the printer part of my device automatically, but not the scanner part. I tried installing the HP driver from the HP website but the driver said there was no software available for my device. Now what should I do?

BTW: My older machine with Linux detects this printer/scanner properly with no problems. I'm surprised there is a problem on macOS.

Install "hp-printer-essentials-S-5_14_8_4.pkg" (can be found with google search for example at ETH Zurich). After a restart scanning and printing will work perfectly (scanning via App Digital Images).

I use an Envy 4520 and a 2700 -- now I just have a question mark in the dock where the native HP apps once were after I upgraded to Sonoma. HP needs to please issue a fix / updated driver ASAP.  The HP Easy Scan app is not fit for purpose, I want the old old driver back !!! Please fix 🙂

I think this is an Apple problem. This has happened to a lot of us after downloading Sonoma OS.

Yes, the new OS does not support the HP printers. Hp does not support MAC's with OS's higher than 13.

 

What a nightmare. I love MAC, but get with it already.

No, it is an HP problem. HP would have a working driver, but they don't provide it to the customers. Instead they annoy them with this ineffectual "HP App for Desktop".
Search for "hp-printer-essentials-S-5_14_8_4.pkg", it will work at least with the slightly older laser MFPs.

Not only that, but I was met with fraud by a supposed technician from HP whom I was told to contact by their AI chatbot.

 

Very upsetting. He took over my computer to supposedly fix the problem and started to treat me in a nasty fashion implying I was stupid etc. Then wanted to sell me a bunch of security etc. and remove a supposed Trojen.

 

Very upsetting and unsettling. I do not trust HP any farther than I can throw them.

The HP App for Desktop app works as a temporary fix for scanning.

no, it doesn't.  You get a message that scanning is not supported for the chosen printer.

 run

brew upgrades

brew install --cask apple-hewlett-packard-printer-drivers

now remove printer and add again.  the issue should be fixed
